The Renault Kiger subcompact SUV officially on sale in India in February 2021. It is the first sub-4 metre SUV from the French Carmaker to be launched in India, and the new Kiger will be offered for an introductory price of Rs. 5.45 lakh, going up to Rs. 9.55 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Based on the company's CMF-A+ platform, the Kiger shares its underpinnings with both, the Renault Triber MPV, and the Nissan Magnite subcompact SUV. The new Kiger will be offered in four variants, namely - RXE, RXL, RXT and the top-spec RXZ. In India, the Renault Kiger will compete against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and its cousin, Nissan Magnite.
The new Renault Kiger is offered with two petrol engines and three transmission choices. This includes the 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated Energy petrol engine that already powers the Triber MPV, and it's tuned to make 71 bhp and 96 Nm of peak torque. This engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The Kiger will also get the new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that was introduced with the Nissan Magnite. The motor is tuned to make 98 bhp and 160 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission.
The RXE variant is only available with the naturally aspirated motor with the manual gearbox, whereas, the RXL variant includes both manual and AMT options, along with the manual version of the turbo petrol engine as well. The higher-spec RXT and RXZ trims are available with both manual and AMT versions of the 1.0-litre Energy engine, and the manual and CVT variants of the turbo petrol option. The Kiger is offered in six colour options - Caspian Blue, Radiant Red, Moonlight Grey, Mahogany Brown, Ice Cool White, and Planet Grey. Renault will sell models with dual-tone colours at an additional cost of Rs. 17,000, across the range.
In terms of design and styling, the new Renault Kiger comes with a sculpted bonnet up front, with a sleek twin slat grille finished in chrome, flanked by LED daytime running lamps. Below we have the muscular bumper that houses the main three-port headlight unit in a black housing. The top-end model will get what Renault calls, tri-octa LED pure vision headlamps. The SUV also gets underbody, wheel arch and side cladding to accentuate its rugged looks.
The profile features a set of dual-tone alloy wheels, silver roof rails, and ORVMs with integrated turn signal lights. At the rear, the car features a stylish looking spoiler with high-mounted LED stop lamp, along with C-shaped LED taillamps, a sculpted tailgate with centrally positioned 'Kiger' logo, and a beefy plastic cladded rear bumper with faux silver skid plate. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 3,991 mm in length, 1,750 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height. The Kiger has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm and a ground clearance of 205 mm.
As for the cabin, the new Renault Kiger will come with an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display, a 7-inch digital instrument console, climate control, engine start-stop, steering mounted controls, Arkamays 3D sound system, wireless charging, rear AC vents with a 12-volt charging slot, dual-tone paint scheme, fabric upholstery and more. The Kiger also gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The cabin also comes with a range of storage options that add up to offer 29.1-litre, this includes the storage in the centre control that alone stands at 9.1-litre. The boot space with all the seats in an upright position is 405-litre. The Kiger also comes with an accessory pack with a wireless phone charger and air purifier.
